Both the cardiovascular and respiratory systems undergo immediate physiological responses to exercise. These changes help the body to cope with the extra demands for oxygen and removal of waste that occur when muscles are working. More energy is required by the working muscles and they produce more waste products and heat as they utilise energy to produce action. This section looks at the immediate physiological responses to exercise that occur in the cardiorespiratory system.
